Main line
The chapter's main line, with the comments from the course.
1. e4 d5
The Scandinavian Defense forces an immediate pawn trade and gives us a solid structure that resembles what we get in the Caro-Kann Defense.
2. exd5
White takes back, and we have two main options: capture with our queen on that pawn or play the gambit style with knight to f6.
2... Qxd5
Better than 2...Nf6, as that move hands White a comfortable edge without any real effort on their part.
3. Nc3!
The most natural move, but this does obstruct our c-file pawn, preventing White from quickly establishing the ideal d4/c4 center.
3... Qa5
The traditional main line, though not as popular since our queen is more exposed here than on d8.
4. Bc4
White's main try against our queen on a5.
4... Nf6
Our typical knight development.
5. d3 a6
We develop our queenside pieces and plan Bb7, pressuring White's kingside since he can't retreat his bishop to e2 anymore.
6. Bd2 Qf5
Queen steps away from knight discoveries and prepares our b5 push.
7. Qe2 b5 8. Bb3 Bb7 9. f3 Nc6
Natural development, activating the knight and putting it on a central square.
