The chapter's main line, with the comments from the course.
1. e4 e5 2. f4
Black takes the center, so we offer up our f-pawn for quick development and kingside pressure.
2... exf4
Good, let's accept the gambit and grab White's pawn, we're up material in a sharp position.
3. Bc4
The Bishop's Gambit, we develop the bishop and avoid getting kicked around by g5-g4 later.
3... Qh4+!
Black's best move forces our king to walk, but we get great attacking chances if Black isn't prepared.
4. Kf1
Castling is gone, but the black queen sits clumsily and Nf3 will shove it back with tempo.
4... Bc5
The Greco Variation, Black's most popular move but also a BLUNDER that lets us develop with tempo!
5. d4
We strike at the bishop immediately and prepare to win back our f4 pawn with Bxf4.
5... Bb6 6. Nf3
Developing with tempo, one of the perks of allowing the early queen check.
6... Qe7
Black retreats but now targets our e4 pawn.
7. Nc3
We develop the knight and keep e4 protected.
7... Nf6
That knight is going to struggle to find a good home.
8. e5
We keep pushing forward while Black scrambles to get out of the way.
8... Nh5
Awkward spot for the knight, but it does defend the f4 pawn.
9. g4
Kicking the knight with nowhere safe to run. Aggressive stuff!
