Bird Opening - Dutch Variation (1...d5)

Black meets 1.f4 d5 with the Dutch Variation, often reaching 2...c5 and 3...Nc6. Play 4.Bb5, trade on c6 with 6.Bxc6, then castle, Bb2, and Qe2, planning Na3 and d3 next. Black gets the bishop pair, but your pieces stay active on the long diagonal for a slight edge.

Let's learn the Dutch Variation! Black brings a pawn to d5 and develops pieces toward our centre. We respond by developing actively, pinning a knight, and building a safe setup with castling. Let's begin with 1.f4.
