Main line
The chapter's main line, with the comments from the course.
1. d4 d5 2. Nf3
Natural development that keeps all our options wide open. We can still transpose to the Queen's Gambit while dodging the early Bf4 tactics that give London players headaches.
2... Bf5
Black develops the bishop early but holds back the knight. We get a tempo-up London in reverse, with juicy targets on b7 and d5 to exploit.
3. c4
Same tactical idea works here: once Black's bishop leaves c8 too early, we hammer b7 with Qb3.
3... e6
Black keeps d5 solid and needs counterplay through the center or kingside since the queenside is full of holes.
4. Nc3
Just keep developing pieces.
4... Nf6!? 5. Nh4
Black must surrender both bishops right away.
5... Bg6 6. cxd5 Nxd5
We'll see this move in pretty much every online game.
7. Nxg6 hxg6 8. e4 Nxc3 9. bxc3
Bishop pair plus an open position, we're better here.
